Metaphor use in one-to-one academic consultations in English

Topic and scope Metaphor use causes difficulties for students whose native language is not English. This has consequences for their learning. We examine metaphor use in English as a lingua franca by filming office hours’ consultations between Spanish Erasmus students and their lecturers.
Research question How is metaphor used in an international context? Are metaphors negotiated and co-constructed and if so to what extent?
